There’s no better way to get readers excited about your book than by getting excited about it yourself. Enthusiasm is contagious and fun! This week I had the opportunity to attend the Women’s National Book Association-Charlotte “Meet the Authors Evening” and was happily astonished by the enthusiasm shared by Leigh Ann Henion, author of Phenomenal: A Hesitant Adventurer’s Search for Wonder in the Natural World, whose reading and presentation was truly phenomenal. In Phenomenal, Lee Ann explores natural phenomena around the world as a phenomena chaser and finds out a lot along the way about herself and the natural world. If you have the chance, ask her about the Monarch butterflies and their journey to Mexico each year. All of the authors were fun and compelling including mystery writer Susan M. Boyer, Lowcountry Boneyard: A Liz Talbot Mystery, Marianne Gingher, editor and contributor of and to Amazing Place: What North Carolina Means to Writers, David Joy, author of Where All Light Tends to Go, and Karen White, author of A Long Time Gone and The Sound of Glass which goes on sale on May 12. All of these books are on my “must read” list and I’m excited about this great line-up! Many thanks to organizations like WNBA for bringing these authors to phenomenal indie bookstores like Park Road Books in Charlotte.
